Fox & Oden was founded by a new generation of makers to honor and preserve the masterful legacy of pre-prohibition whiskey blending and finishing. It is a nod to Joseph A. Magnus, a Gilded Age distiller who spent his time, fortune, and most treasured days Up North in Oden, Michigan, and whose notable blending and finishing techniques are used by our distillers today. Famed for its rich and rugged terrain — where ambitious, native foxes prevail in the wild — our home state of Michigan is an important part of who we are. When we’re not crafting ultra-premium whiskies, you can find us hunting, fishing, boating, and enjoying a dram beside a campfire – with family and friends and away from the hustle and bustle of normal life.

On the northernmost tip of the lower peninsula of Michigan is a little town called Oden. It’s actually not technically a town – it’s an unincorporated community that’s part of the larger Littlefield Township, which boasts somewhere around 3,000 stalwart residents. Oden is quiet and wild. Nestled in wooded country, it’s far from cities and crowded streets. There are more animals than people in this little corner of the world, and the place is better for it.
Oden sits on Crooked Lake, whose little streams eventually run into the Great Lake Huron, joining the cold waters that border Canada and the truly wild north. The most popular feature in Oden was once the railroad depot, which brought many bustling visitors to the tiny town. In the late 1880s the amenities in Oden included three grocery stores, two bowling alleys, a boathouse, and a golf course. Summer cottages were built along the lakeshore, where city dwellers would steal away for a wistful season “up north.” It was a community built for pleasure – little known enough to remain untainted, but popular enough to generate all the necessary amenities.
