What is Whiskey?
Whiskey – sometimes spelled whisky – is a distilled spirit made from fermented grains like barley, corn, rye, or wheat and aged in wood barrels. The spelling variations stem from regional language distinctions. Countries like Ireland and the United States prefer whiskey, whereas Scotland, Canada, and Japan opt for whisky. Different whiskies use different grains and different production styles to produce unique varieties. These are the four award-winning American whiskies in the Fox & Oden collection: Straight Bourbon, Double Oaked Straight Bourbon, American Single Malt, and Straight Rye.
Fox & Oden Straight Bourbon Whiskey
A quintessentially American spirit, this straight bourbon whiskey is made in the United States from at least 51% corn and is aged in charred, new oak barrels. It is considered a “straight bourbon” because it has been aged for a minimum of two years. Fox & Oden Straight Bourbon Whiskey is made with a blend of 8 to 15-year-old bourbons and boasts a sweet and full-bodied profile, with notes of smooth salted caramel that transitions into smoky charred oak, leather, and warm baking spices, accented with a hint of tobacco.
Fox & Oden Double Oaked Straight Bourbon Whiskey
“Double Oaked” whiskey refers to a maturation process where the spirit undergoes a second aging period in a set of new, charred oak barrels. This additional step intensifies flavors, imparting a deeper, richer profile to its whiskey. Fox & Oden’s Double Oaked Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the aforementioned Straight Bourbon Whiskey barreled and aged again in new, charred oak barrels. The result is a rich, oak flavor with added complexity and depth.
Fox & Oden Straight Rye Whiskey
Rye whiskey is a favorite among cocktail lovers and is characterized by its spicy and robust flavor profile. “Straight rye” – like “straight bourbon” – must contain at least 51% rye and must be aged for at least two years in charred, new oak barrels. Fox & Oden Straight Rye Whiskey is crafted from 95% and 5% malted rye mash bills and aged four years. It contains notes of toffee, cocoa, and citrus, and baking spices.
Fox & Oden American Single Malt
An emerging category in the whiskey world, American single malt draws inspiration from traditional Scotch single malts, but with a uniquely American twist: distillers use 100% malted barley. Fox & Oden American Single Malt features a blend of sourced 4 to 8-year-old malt whiskies. On the nose there are notes of caramel, apple, and floral. The palate is caramel, honey, vanilla, and dark chocolate.
