Ocqueoc Falls is the biggest waterfall in the Lower Peninsula. The trail is shared by both hikers and bikers and is the best way to view both the falls and the fall colors. Take one of four loops – with varying lengths – at the trailhead.
Mt. Pigsah Dune Boardwalk
Holland, MI
Lake views make Michigan fall colors breathtaking. The Mt. Pigsah Dune Boardwalk is one of our favorites, given how close to home it is. Hike along the dune approximately 157 feet above Lake Michigan for stunning views of fall foliage. And then taste our whiskey at the Coppercraft Distillery and Tasting Room approximately 15 minutes away.
Tunnel of Trees
Petoskey, MI
The Tunnel of Trees in Petoskey, Michigan, is a twenty-something mile stretch of road hugging Lake Michigan. It has one of the most famous fall foliage displays as you drive through a “sea of hardwoods.” The tunnel begins just north of Harbor Springs on M-119, at the top of the Mitten. Take the scenic route and make stops along the way to take photos, pop into a local shop, or take a hike.
Leelanau State Park
Northport, MI
The Leelanau State park showcases 8.5 miles of hiking trails, the Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum, a campground, and cabins. Just south of the state park you’ll find Traverse City, with its wine-ing and dining. Pack up and head North for a weekend getaway.
Ada Covered Bridge
Ada, MI
In a region recognized for its bounty of hardwoods, the historic Ada Bridge crosses the Thornapple River, and is a fun halfway mark for a bike ride or a drive along the winding forested roads of Ada Township.
Fisherman’s Island State Park
Charlevoix, MI
Fisherman’s Island State Park is just outside of Charlevoix, Michigan, and includes a campground with deeply forested sites nestled in the dunes of the Lake Michigan shoreline. Take a walk along the beach with the fall colors on one side and the third largest Great Lake on the other. Or head to town to stroll the shops. Only the luckiest will find a Petoskey stone on this color tour.
Tahquamenon Falls

Although gorgeous and popular year round, the Tahquamenon Falls stun during the autumn season. Tahquamenon Falls offers trails and year-round hiking.
